Meet Kenny!

I love Kenny! Ever since I came up with this idea of a sketchbook full of portraits, back then when I drew Jeff, I was thinking that I must draw Kenny. Kenny is a neighbor, he lives on the same floor with his wife and Pebbles the dog. So I bump into him often. And even though I don’t always understand what he is saying, our conversations are always delightful and I am looking forward to them. I do get it that Kenny likes people in general and me in particular. Kenny is happy, expressive, unabashed, genuine and very real. A breath of fresh air.

My goodness, you are so, so, so good at portraiture. Kenny is magnificent. I love the subtle gradations in his face. And the fedora is perfect!

I have a feeling you are going to get a reputation in your building! Everyone is going to want an “Alex Portrait!”

Thank you, Carol! Your support means a lot to me! Being good in portraiture is still somewhere in future, hopefully. It is funny that you said this at the moment I most needed it. I went through the book in the last couple of days to see what needs to be fixed, cleaned or adjusted and was disappointed, I am still far from where I want to be. A word of support is really what I need right now.

DO NOT make me come out there! Your portraits are superb! You have managed to capture not only the likeness of your friends and neighbors but their “essence”. Now THAT is talent.

Seriously. I don’t like to fly. Don’t make me come out there.

LOL! I appreciate that! On the other hand, maybe I will continue to whine if that will make you come and visit… Now, that’s a thought :D.

I don’t know who is telling you, you have a ways to go before you are good enough at portraiture for others to want you to do one of them. You are quite good. However, if you are aspiring to enter the world of realism in pencil or colored pencil mediums I have heard that close attention and scrutiny is sometimes used and that jurors sometimes look through something called a “loop?” to see the applications and strokes and such of the medium? I don’t know much about that. Scarey stuff, to me. Excellent drawing, Alex. I can imagine kenny reaching up and tipping his hat “Good Day” . Are you going to ask to draw Pebbles? I hope. I hope? I loved your pet portrait previously!

Thank you, Leslie! Kenny is a sweetie :). I am not going to draw Pebbles, unfortunately! Not in this book. I have 5 pages left, and they are planned out. In fact there are several people who didn’t make it into this book because I am running out of pages. I will be posting my apologies to them. But… I have already bought a new book. I will have to have a bit of a break in between because I am so tired by now and my drawing hand started to cramp. I will use the time to formulate my goals for the new book and my new strategy, and then I’ll start again.

I never heard about art being examined with a loop, but it actually makes sense for detailed realistic pieces.
