Pepper and onion
This was long in coming. Some of my friends heard of my interest in still life. Some heard me discussing pro’s and con’s of a new for me, but really old, classical medium. Some lent me books. Others suggested brands. My painting teacher held my hand. Well… not literally, but he held my brush and showed me stuff. It really took a village! But it is here – a first oil painting. Thank you all!
Veggies are long chopped and cooked, but the painting is drying on a rack. This was a memorable dinner.

Venturing out! These are gorgeous, Alex! I love the loosenes and the evidence of cross contours, giving these bulk and form. The values are beautiful and offer up the right amount of light……. WOW!

Yes, I’ve been thinking of oils seemingly forever, but felt restrained because of smell and chemicals involved.My new painting teacher convinced me that with new odorless solvents and small sizes I seem to gravitate to – smell should not be a problem. And it isn’t! I should have started two years ago! I would have had two years of experience by now. But better late than never, right?

Moving to oil????? Cool. I’ve never tried it because I can’t imagine what it would be like in a small apartment. I love your use of color and the light reflecting on the red onion and the yellow pepper.
Yes, started trying my hand in oil :D! Real happy about it! As I replied to Leslie, I have had exactly the same concerns and reservations about smells and chemicals in an apartment situation as you seem to have. My painting teacher suggested a set of supplies that make it possible. I am so glad I set my fears aside and tried – it is indeed possible. If you are seriously thinking about oils, let me know, I have a solution that appears to work.
